Wahlverwandtschaften-Elective Affinities
Inspired by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s 19th-century concept of "Elective Affinities" - an inevitable, magnetic attraction between distinct elements - Johanna Breede brings separate photographs together in a powerful visual dialogue. Through finely composed diptychs, the exhibition pairs artists who span different continents, decades, and lifetimes. Despite these vast divides, their juxtaposed works respond to one another with a seamless harmony of form, light, and gesture. The exhibition reveals that these artistic connections are far from random; instead, the images share a profound, timeless resonance, as if destined to meet on the gallery walls.
